Dell has thrown its hat into the Origami ring and sends word that they will have 2 UMPC models coming out by “early summer.” Dubbed the Dellie and the Dellie XPS, the devices will be priced at $599 and $1299, respectively.
“Our new Dellie line continues Dell’s long heritage of taking new technologies and making them mainstream. We believe our successes with our MP3 player line and our Axiom PDA line speak volumes about our ability to deliver UMPCs that really bring the best of both of those worlds together. This is a device for the masses.”
Detailed specs for each model are due to be released on May 1st, in exactly one month. Dell says that the entry-level Dellie UMPC will be very competitive with the current offers we’ve seen from other manufactures. Dell is working closely with Intel and a “leading graphics chip innovator” to develop the new Dellie XPS, which will feature enhanced visual and sound capabilities.
“We really see 2 divergent markerts for the new Dellie line of Ultra Mobile PCS,” said Dell. “As with our PC business, we will offer models for the everyday user and then something a bit different for the enthusiasts that like to draw on every ounce of power that a platform can possibly deliver.”
We look forward to more news on Dell’s new Dellie line in the coming weeks. And sign us up for a new Dellie XPS!

[…] At this time, Dell has not announced their intentions to offer an UMPC and you might think this post is an April 1st joke. After all, Ultranauts is saying the same thing but with a little wink wink. I love the joke but we have learned to hate April 1 news days because there is tremendous difficulty in knowing what is true. However, we have verified this story and Dell is going to enter the market. […]
[…] Dell investing in Ultra-Mobile PCs (UMPCs)? Wow. How do people find out these things? Ultranauts and UMPCBuzz are talking about a Dell UMPC. It’s not announced yet, but the facts seem to be leaking — quickly. Could they be investing even further into the technology, and is this somehow related to the ultra-wide screen Tablet PC that Eric Mack is showing off? They’re up to something - I got a call last week to participate in a focus group and/or usability study on ‘Tablet PCs’. It hasn’t happened yet, so that’s about all I know.
Dell is used to re-brand Samsung. Samsung is releasing Q1 and like Dell X1, the new DELL UMPC will be Samsung Q1 device with the Dell’s name on it. So no suppresses or doubts about this.
The good thing is that the new DELL UMPC will be available throughout the world distribution channels of Dell and will be backed up with good support and warranties. Not only this, but the prices from Dell normally are better then the prices from Samsung or theirs resellers.
